Transportation as a service

Kaptyn is privately held Fleet Management | Mobility Services | Transportation as a Service (TaaS) start-up founded in 2017. Kaptyn provides transportation-as-a-service—similar to Uber—in select U.S. markets (e.g., Las Vegas, Miami, Los Angeles) with a fleet of exclusively Tesla vehicles and professional drivers. They’ve had had multiple rounds of venture capital funding, with the latest deal amount at $20.2M~.

Kaptyn’s leadership team chose Costa Rica Software Services (CRSS) to rebuild and modernize their code base and build mobile applications using the latest technologies. CRSS is leading the effort to create a next generation Fleet Management software system that will require two complex mobile applications. The client’s code base includes three foundational pieces: Applications and Technology; the Core Platform; and, Data Science and AI. CRSS is responsible for building or refactoring each piece of Kaptyn’s foundational software. The Applications foundation will include two mobile apps: A Driver app (Android) and a Multiplatform Rider app (Android + iOS). In addition, CRSS is tasked with integrating technologies including a certified meter, mobile data terminal, maps, and telematics, etc. The Core Platform consists of Universal & Automated Dispatch and Fleet Management. CRSS is modernizing and integrating these management functionalities and features on the backend of the enterprise. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence will be used to forecast demand, utilization, fuel efficiency, maintenance, automated logistics, and Fleet Smart Distribution. The Costa Rica Software Development team will integrate automation/data/AI features across company platforms and apps to power Kaptyn’s business. Kaptyn applications are being built using Angular with an open source PostgresSQL database and Node.js Server resources. Modern technology tools and methods were used to facilitate development speed, quality and transparency: Git, JIRA, BitBucket, and Agile/Scrum process.
